AACC Meeting Minutes

ANDALE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

AUGUST 10,2009

The meeting is called to order at 6:40 p.m., Monday, August 10, 2009, by Suzen Williams, President.  Jacqui Mies, Treasurer; Margo Schenck, Vice President; Virginia Edwards, Secretary; and board members Paul Temaat and Phyllis McFadden are present.

The minutes from the July 13, 2009 meeting stand as read.

Jacqui Mies goes over her treasurer reports.  She has made some corrections on the July report and then presents her August report and a detailed Summerfest Report.  It appears after all is said and done, the Chamber will break even on the Summerfest.  Her reports stand as presented.

The discussion turns to Summerfest and how things can be improved for next year.  The feedback the board has received is that the fireworks display, although better than years past, was too long.  Fifteen minutes would be sufficient.  Other points discussed include:

·         Instead of a raffle and/or live auction – have a silent auction

·         Look outside of the City for donations

·         Pre-plan and disburse the cash bags to the vendors and booths

·         Find a Booth Chairman that will take applications for vendors and booths well ahead of the day of the event

·         The Hutchinson Symphony tickets are not bringing in the money they used to and it will be scratched next year

·         Have an “America’s Got Talent” type talent show, with judges and prizes

·         Better communication is key.

The Thank-You dinner will be held at Little Bear Bar & Grill this year and the president will set up the date and time and let everyone know.

Jacqui Mies mentions that the Chamber should send Sheree Lyons and Country Acres Convenience Store a Thank-You Note for turning off their gas pumps during the fireworks display.

Junior Lubbers, Andale Police Chief, has indicated that he would like the Chamber of Commerce to partner or take-over the planning and execution of the Annual Halloween Party.  The board is enthusiastic about the prospect and will discuss it more at the September meeting.

Paul Temaat asks for permission to disburse the remaining funds from the Watershed Project that the Chamber was in charge of.  The remaining money will be donated as follows:  Hutchinson Symphony - $300.00; Andale High School Science Dept., Band Dept. and Vocal Music will receive $350.00 each.  The board agrees.

Virginia Edwards moves to adjourn the meeting, second by Jacqui Mies.  Vote is unanimous and the meeting is adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
